Reiki
What is Reiki?
Traditionally a Japanese therapy, Reiki (pronounced ‘Ray Key’) meaning Universal Life Energy works energetically on the physical, mental and emotional levels. It aims to promote health and wellbeing, bringing balance and harmony to the body, mind and spirit.
History of Reiki
It has its foundations in Tibetan Buddhism but was apparently forgotten until its rediscovery in the late 19th Century; today, the number of Reiki practitioners in the Western world has steadily increased, and it is practised by an increasing number of nurses in hospitals all over the world.
What to Expect?
During treatment, the client remains fully clothed and the therapist uses gentle touch, to encourage the free flow of energy through the body. The therapist also works on the ‘luminous energy field’ surrounding the body, including the seven chakras.
This energy field determines how we heal and ultimately, how we live. Reiki can be particularly valuable after a stressful or traumatic event, or a bereavement. Traumatic and unsettling events create an imprint within our energy field that predisposes us towards physical and emotional disease. These imprints can also guide us unconsciously into repeating the same emotional patterns through life, to our detriment.
Combining powerful healing techniques, the Reiki practitioner erases these ‘heavy’ energies, replacing them with light, releasing the client from the powerful grip of the past, and its karma. In this way, the energy field and the chakras are brought back into balance, with a positive impact on mind, body and soul. Reiki treatments may help you find inner peace, happiness and physical well-being.
Some people feel deeply relaxed after treatment; others report a feeling of invigoration.
How will Reiki help you?
Reiki stands alone, or can be used to complement other healing modalities, including orthodox medicine, to relieve side effects and promote recovery. It is important to remember that because Reiki works on the energetic level, it can aid healing of all kinds:
- Physical
- Emotional
- Psychological
- Spiritual
Conditions that benefit from Reiki include:
- Mental Upset
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Headaches
- Lack of Sleep
- Physical Pain
- Emotional Hurts
Reiki can be useful after a traumatic or unsettling event, facilitating the body’s natural healing capabilities. Many people also use Reiki as a preventative practice.
